LET’S GET ACQUAINTED!

Zero Waste Alliance Ukraine is a coalition of Ukrainian organizations and activists working on the resolution of the waste problem in Ukraine. Our main goal is to influence the reform of waste and resource management systems in Ukraine.

We aim to shift the focus from “how to recycle waste” to “how to prevent waste from being created in the first place.” This means prioritizing ways to reuse and promoting composting, followed by recycling all valuable materials. ZWAU is committed to making resource waste a thing of the past.

Zero Waste Alliance Ukraine represents Ukraine in two international networks.

HISTORY OF THE UNION

2014–2018

Activists have united into local communities: Zero Waste Lviv, Zero Waste Kharkiv, Ozero (Zero Waste Society).

February 2019

Zero Waste Alliance Ukraine has been founded. It has bben created at the beggining of 2019 by three organisations: NGO “Zero Waste Lviv,” NGO “Zero Waste Society,” NGO “Center for Media and Civic Initiatives” (also known as Kharkiv Zero Waste)

2019

ZWAU has become the official representative of european network Zero Waste Europe, which includes 31 other local and national civil society organizations from across Europe.

2020

The community has joined the Zero Waste Cities programm.

Lviv has officially become the first city outside the European Union to join the project “Transitioning to Zero Waste: One Community at a Time” as part of the Zero Waste Cities program.

February 2021

Lyubotyn (Kharkiv region) has officially joined the project “Transitioning to Zero Waste: One Community at a Time” as part of the Zero Waste Cities program.

February 2022

Three civil society organizations have joined Zero Waste Alliance Ukraine: “Zero Waste Lutsk,” “Mariupol Sorts,” and “Eco News” (Kherson).

За 2021 ми встигли зробити чимало роботи: провели ряд просвітницьких кампаній, досліджень, аналітичну та адвокаційну роботу. Деталі та результати можна переглянути у звіті.

Попри світову пандемію, робота нашої Спілки продовжувалась і у 2020 році. Цього року ми працювали над втіленням проєкту Zero Waste Cities та іншими просвітницькими проєктами…
