Competencies acquired upon completing this module:

• The ability to identify priority goals for a sustainable and efficient waste management system and develop its key principles according to them;
• An understanding of the main aspects of collecting various fractions of household waste;
• Comprehension of how the characteristics of different household waste fractions (e.g., volume, density, compressibility, fermentability, etc.) influence decisions on optimizing the fleet of municipal vehicles, determining the number and types of containers, as well as setting the frequency of household waste collection;
• The ability to consider “operational integration and optimization,” i.e., how all waste collection schemes work together to create synergy (e.g., reducing the frequency of collecting mixed (residual) waste when separate collection for specific fractions is in place).
