#breakfreefromplastic
The hierarchy of Zero Waste principles is as follows: reduce – reuse – recycle. That is, before you buy something that you will need to throw away or sort and recycle, think about what you can reuse.
How we are working to promote the use of reusable
Implementing Zero Waste principles is an important part of our efforts to achieve global change. This includes promoting the use of reusable tableware and packaging instead of single-use plastic, as well as recycling. Our initiative participants pay a lot of attention to auditing manufacturers for plastic pollution, raising awareness and working with local authorities.
Break Free From Plastic movement
#Breakfreefromplastic is a global movement that was formed and is working towards a future free of plastic pollution. Since its formation in September 2016, more than 1,900 NGOs and individuals from around the world have joined the movement to demand a significant reduction in single-use plastic and to push for sustainable solutions to the plastic pollution crisis. We share the common values of environmental protection and social justice, which are central to our work at the community level. We are working to implement a holistic approach to tackle plastic pollution and achieve systemic change in line with the principles of #breakfreefromplastic. This means reducing pollution at every stage: from plastic production to its disposal, including measures to reduce the use of household plastic itself.
We Choose Reuse campaign
#WeChooseReuse is a social campaign to increase recycling, reduce waste and introduce reuse systems at all levels of the product life cycle: from production to service, household use and disposal. We need to abandon the culture of single-use plastic, which pollutes the planet and negatively affects human health. Reuse is one of the steps towards a cleaner future.
What you can do
It seems that global change is impossible without large-scale steps by large corporations and politicians, without the efforts of millions of people around the world. However, everyone can make a contribution to the common cause. Starting today.
- Use reusable bags, water bottles, lunch boxes and takeaway cups.
- Choose products that can be bought without packaging and packed in your own reusable containers. ‘Vote with your hryvnia’ for stores that encourage the return of used containers (plastic, bottles, etc.).
- Sort your waste and use recyclable containers.
