We present the «Step-by-step guide for implementing infrastructure projects in waste management». This is a collection of 33 thoroughly described practices that are already functioning in Ukrainian communities and European municipalities.
The guide gathers practical solutions regarding:
- waste prevention in the community;
- reuse of resources and repair;
- separate waste collection, recycling and composting;
- other waste recovery and disposal operations;
- educational practices.
Each practice is described according to a unified structure: how it works, what problem it solves, how to implement it, financing, how impact is determined, key results. The practices are also accompanied by sample solutions, instructions, regulations, and links to thematic articles and videos.
The practices were collected from Ukrainian cities – Lviv, Khmelnytskyi, Kharkiv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, Derhachi, Lutsk, Chernivtsi and others, as well as from municipalities in European countries: Slovenia, Austria, Denmark, Slovakia, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Germany, Croatia and the Czech Republic.
The guide was developed by researchers, environmentalists, and heads of civil society organizations from various regions: Mariupol, Kharkiv, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Khmelnytskyi and Kyiv. Among them are candidates of science in technical and geographical sciences, specialists in circular economy and waste management. The practices were researched and described by people who work directly in the field.
The guide is currently available only in Ukrainian, but we are working on an English translation!
